Hi everyone. I hope you’ve had a good month and been able to enjoy the weather which, on the whole, has been glorious, I’ve been making the most of it (and saving fuel) by walking to the workshop on days I don’t need to use the van. As well as taking in the beautiful countryside it gives me thinking time and helps me reach the daily recommended, 10K steps!
Thanks so much to those of you who came along to my open day. I had so much support
from my neighbours and it was lovely to see some new faces as well as those loyal, customers and friends. The workshop has never looked so smart. It certainly gave me an incentive to get everything in order!
The next open day, and last one of the year, will be SATURDAY 19TH NOVEMBER.
As well as the chance to browse my creations in person, it’s your chance to buy a few
Christmas pressies that you’ll not find in the high street shops:
paint/brush/knob bundles for the keen upcyclist in your family - made up in your choice of colours
luxurious soy wax candle and diffuser gift sets - a divine treat!
glazed & unglazed planters from Italy which look as nice with candles in as they do plants
Gift cards for workshops, commissions, paint & furniture
Come along, anytime between 10am and 4pm, it’ll be lovely to see you. Location - Benter, BA3 5BJ. Look for the huge black Tractor Shed, you can’t miss it!
Workshops & One-to-Ones
Workshops are on hold until the warmer weather now. In the meantime I am offering one-to-ones. You bring in a piece of your own furniture and I will take you through the various stages of upcycling to produce a professional looking piece. This will give you the confidence to tackle future projects on your own.
You benefit from a 10% discount on products bought on the day, and coffee and cake are of course provided! Message for more details.
About the Paint!
Now is the time to be brave, if you haven’t already. Fusion’s new colours have arrived! The colours are mostly warm and deep, perfect for projects that will help you achieve a cosy feel to your home this winter. I am loving them.
Makeover of the Month
Makeover of the month, or piece of the year? With twisted posts and scalloped detail it certainly is a one off. Some of you may recognise this as my old paint display dresser. When I originally bought it at auction it had no doors so I commissioned a local guy to make them. I’ve been waiting for the new colours to arrive and, as much as I lean towards blues and green, this had to be Elderberry! I wanted an aubergine look to contrast with the counter top and posts. The colour in the photos looks more cranberry (technology!) but it really is more aubergine. It’s a tall piece so will need a special home. An amazing piece. I’m really pleased with it.
Latest Commissions
Commissions this month include this table & chairs. My customers wanted it lighter to fit in with their refurbished kitchen. They brought some samples into the workshop and we found a colour match for the legs. The top was sanded right back and washed with a couple of colours before varnishing. I think I did ok. 😊
Preloved & Latest Finds
When I started out in the world of upcycling, I leant toward vintage furniture, French being my favourite. Now, although I’m still fond of French furniture, I’m leaning more towards modern pieces. There is plenty of good quality pine around, and pieces that will benefit from a little tlc. This month I’ve picked up a couple of glass cabinets and a large mirror bevelled mirror.
Christmas (sorry, it is nearly November!)
Are you asking family and friends over during the festive season? Will you dine off a table you can be proud of? I have a few super tables in stock, restyled, ready to be delivered or waiting to be painted to specification. All extend to make room for additional guests. This is a beauty.
Coming Up
Currently I’m restyling some Nathan furniture, in deep blues and greens. Not my usual style but I’m really enjoying working on them. My customer has chosen Fusion’s Midnight Blue and the new Manor Green. Midnight Blue is always a winner and Manor Green is a joy to work with. They look amazing already, I look forward to showing you the photos when they’re finished.
Pass it On!
I admire and respect anyone who runs their own business, it’s blooming hard work. So from now on, in this section of my newsletter I’d like to give a ‘shout out’ to people I use or come across who I think will be of benefit to you. You may not need their skills or products at this moment in time, but save their details, you never know when may need them.
THIS MONTH I'D LIKE TO INTRODUCE YOU TO PJ PARCELS...
I’ve used PJ Parcels for some time now. They are a small family run business based in Somerset, offering a bespoke collection & delivery service of furniture across mainland UK, from single to multiple items including anything from garden furniture to antiques.
It’s hard to find a good courier these days, one you can rely on to look after the pieces in their care and deliver when they say they’re going to. Judith and Paul are also great in keeping in touch with my customers and organizing delivery times direct, which saves me another job. I cannot recommend them highly enough.
Outside my world of upcycling…
This month I visited family in Portsmouth and took a trip up the Spinnaker Tower with my daughter and grandson. It was quite unnerving sitting on the glass floor at the top (which can apparently hold the weight of two black rhinos), I suddenly felt very heavy! Crazy how your mind can try and talk you out of doing something. It didn’t succeed though.
And finally, thank You!
Thanks as always for being interested, sending photos, and keeping in touch. As a small business, your support and messages are really appreciated.
Have a lovely month.
